tips

  1. keep adding tips
  2. scrcpy command line flags are case sensitive !
  3. useful flags for beginners. ( the flags list is too long )
    --max-fps=30 --no-audio --no-video --keep-active -S -w --start-app=com.android.vending -M -K --otg
lookup each in the docs. or scrcpy -h
  4. using the scrcpy as a virtual display ( launch apps like they are native to windows/linux )
    - first unlock your device ( this wont work if your phone is on lockscreen )
    - run start "" scrcpy --new-display --keep-active --flex-display --start-app=com.android.vending
    - you can do --new-display=1024x768/160
    - workaround for white blank screen : install the app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.pnhdroid.appsearch&hl=en , and run adb shell am start -n net.pnhdroid.appsearch/.search.SearchActivity --display 1
  5. using scrcpy over wifi/hotspot ( very useful for android tv as well )
    1. activate adb over tcp/ip
    2. $ adb tcpip 5555 skip this for android 7/8 tvs (enabled by default).
    3. get your ip address $ adb shell ip route. example output: "blah blah blah ... src 10.144.13.148". unplug phone. ( hotspot users. on windows run ipconfig. your phone ip is the default gateway ipv4. on linux its ifconifg )
    4. connect adb wirelessly $ adb connect <your_android_ip>:5555
    5. run $ scrcpy
    6. if you know your ip and adb over tcp/ip is active, run in one command: $ scrcpy --tcpip=<your_android_ip>:5555
  6. you can run various apps on android tv , download the correct apk. use adb --install -g c:\users\myewaste\downloads\anyapp.apk , and mouse click and keyboard works in it. install firefox on tv. run linux inside your tv. go crazy.
  7. Autostart scrcpy on USB connection with console output with pwsh7 script

Use Cmd / Win-Key on Android in a scrcpy Windows

This guide explains how to use the Caps Lock key as a modifier key (equivalent to the Windows key) on Android using Gboard and scrcpy.

  1. Open Gboard Settings: Android OS. Go to Settings > System > Physical keyboard on Android.

  2. Configure Key Mappings: Gboard. Tap Customize keys and select Caps Lock.

  3. Assign Command Function: Key Remap. Change the key mapping for Caps Lock to Cmd (corresponding to the Windows key).

This enables shortcuts like Caps Lock + Tab for app switching in scrcpy.
